Domestic Interiors

Click to enlarge: Coshkib Farmhouse kitchen interiorYou can see a range of reconstructed domestic interiors in the museum, from a plain one-roomed cottier’s house, to substantial farmhouses and several urban terrace houses.  These reconstructions are based on historical records and, where available, the detailed accounts of family and friends who remembered living in the houses. The furnishings reflect styles and tastes from the early decades of the 20th century, just before the First World War.

You can find further information in the museum collections and archives.  These hold a variety of material and information illustrating the long and fascinating history of the arrangement of domestic interiors throughout the ages.
