Transport

Click to enlarge: Boy looking at Horsedrawn tram in the Transport galleriesThe Ulster Folk and Transport Museum’s stunning collection covers communications by land, sea and sky, past and present. The exhibits range from historic Titanic photographs to the 120 ton steel schooner, Result and from the pioneering, vertical take-off Short's SC1 to a Belfast-built De Lorean sports car. Together they form one of the largest and widest ranging transport collections in Europe - a collection that is of national and international importance.

The collection also includes major archival and photographic collections. Its origin lies in the Belfast Transport Museum, which, in 1967, merged with the Ulster Folk Museum.

The collection illustrates the history of all of the forms of transport used throughout Ireland. It covers the complete time span from the earliest recorded modes of transport through to the present day, and includes all forms of visual, oral or three-dimensional evidence.

Here's a taster of our impressive transport galleries, complete with tips from Donaghadee Primary school children on how to have a safe and enjoyable visit whilst helping us to look after the important vehicles in our care.
