Spinning

Spindle Spinning

Saturday 29th October

Time: 11.00am – 3.30pm

In this class you will hear how people manufactured woollen fabric and learn about the process itself: carding, drafting and spinning. A spindle will be used initially to spin the wool fibres then later in the day you will get the opportunity to use a spinning wheel.

Indigo dyeing is a rich tradition all over the world. Indigo was the best substantive colour fast dye used for thousands of years. Come and learn how to prepare the indigo vat and try resist dyeing techniques on fabric.

Redwork Embroidery Christmas Decoration

Popular in the 1800s redwork involves a simple technique working with a single shade of thread. Spend the day creating an embellished piece which will be turned into a Christmas tree decoration backed with tweed.

Mixed Media Textile Art

Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th May

Time: 10.30am – 4.00pm

Participants will explore the Museum taking images on an Ipad. These will be used as inspiration to create prints and drawings on paper and fabric. On the second day participants will use hand and machine embroidery to create a layered textile piece.
