AADE Summer School for Post Primary Teachers

Time/Date - 09:45 - 15:30, Tue 15 Aug 2017

The Experimental Portfolio
The 2017 summer workshop for teachers will focus on experimental mark making and painting with a variety of non-traditional tools with a view to introducing GCSE and A level students to the exciting possibilities that arise when they creatively use objects readily at hand.  The aim of the day is to foster an awareness of the wealth of marks that are possible when, for example, a ruler, stick or spoon is used to mark make.  The workshops will begin with non-analytical, free-flow mark making with a variety of tools, proceeding to work with first hand imagery.

Throughout the workshop there will be a strong contextual emphasis that will allow for creative response to otherswork. A PowerPoint presentation will showcase a range of pupilswork, relating to the Experimental Portfolio.  Teachers (if they wish) are also invited to bring along a few examples of their students work, so we can all benefit from sharing good practice.

The course will be led by Claire Taggart, Breda Academy

The summer school is designed to support expectations of a more exploratory approach at GCSE and A Level.  Later in the year, two masterclasses, led by recognised artists, will provide insights into their work, as well as presenting opportunities for individuals to work alongside like-minded people. Everyone is welcome, just come along with an open mind and prepare to: try something new”, “have funand be creative
