In partnership with Sixteen South Studios, we’re delighted to welcome Alex T. Smith, author and illustrator of CLAUDE, the best-selling series of books, to the Ulster Museum.

A brand new series of CLAUDE is in production right here in Belfast at Sixteen South and will premiere on Disney Junior later this year.

In this fun, interactive workshop Alex will reveal the secrets of drawing his favourite characters, and will help you to create your own dynamic doodles. Don’t forget to bring your CLAUDE books to be signed.

Alex T. Smith

Alex graduated with a 1st Class Honours degree in Illustration in 2006 and began working on his first commission as he put his degree show up! Since then he has gone on to write and illustrate nine picture books to date, as well as illustrating other people's texts, including celebrated authors such as Eva Ibbotson.

Alex is also the creator of the much loved and bestselling CLAUDE fiction series for early readers which have been published in over fourteen languages across the world. His eighth in the series, CLAUDE Going for Gold won the 5-9 year old fiction category of the Sainsbury's Children's Book Award 2016 and CLAUDE is soon to be a TV star on Disney Junior with 52 episodes airing in 2017.

When not working Alex enjoys doodling in his sketchbook, reading, people watching and eavesdropping. He lives under the watchful eye of his little canine companions who are a constant source of inspiration to him.

Alex says about his trip to the Ulster Museum, ‘“I’m so excited to be taking part in this event. For the past year or so I have been working with the Sixteen South team here on the Claude TV show, so Belfast now feels a bit like home for me, Claude and Sir Bobblysock. I’m looking forward to sharing my journey to becoming an author and an illustrator with the people of Belfast and hopefully inspire some future artists in the city too.”
